Home For the Holidays
The warm kitchen smells of nutmeg and clove,
A plump turkey awaits hot on the stove.
Sweet potatoes sport a marshmallow crown
Gravy’s in the pan turning nice and brown.

Spicy pumpkin pies lined up in a row,
The table’s all set and arranged just so.
Pink camellias float in a cut glass dish
The whole family is home to grant Mama’s wish!
-Sylvia Roberts

Autumn Leaves
Upon the breeze, the autumn leaves are carried thither, yon;
They rest, at last, upon the grass one moment..then they’re gone.
They’re tossed about and in and out they fly across the way;
And up and down, they sail around-the wind they must obey.
Now, if you please, the autumn leaves are much like most of us;
We’re tossed about by fear and doubt and things we rare discuss.
This need not be, for you and me, there is a surer way;
The Solid Rock, will bear the shock, no matter what the fray.
He who believes is not like leaves that drift with every wind,
His faith is fixed, in God unmixed with doubts that satan sends.
He walks with God, while earth he trods; he’s led by power divine.
When life is through, beyond the blue, he’ll dwell in lands sublime.
-Carl C. Williams Sr

A Prayer For Thanksgiving
We thank Thee for this place in which we dwell, for the love that unites us, for the peace accorded us this day, for the health, the work, the food, and the bright skies that make our lives delightful, for our friends, in all parts of the earth.

Give us courage, gaiety, and the quiet mind. Spare to us our friends, soften to us our enemies. Bless us, if it may be, in all our innocent endeavors. If it may not, give us the strength to encounter that which is to come.

May we brave in peril, constant in tribulation, and in all changes of fortune loyal and loving to one another. As the clay to the potter, as the windmill to the wind, as children of their sire, we beseech of Thee this help and mercy for Christ’s sake. Amen. -Robert Louis Stevenson

God’s love for us is not a love that always exempts us from trials, but rather a love that sees us through trials.

CHUCKLES
The doctor took the patient into the room and said “I’ve got good news and bad news.” The patient said “Give me the good news.” The doctor said “They’re going to name a disease after you.”

A young child returned from his first time in church. He was asked how it went. He said “The music was nice, but the commercial was too long.”

Blanche said to Herb: “If you don’t stop snoring, I’m going to toss you out on your ear!” Herb said “Does it bother you that much?” Blanche said “Not just me, but the entire congregation!”

Every morning for years, the telephone operator in a small Sierra-Nevada town received a call from a man asking the exact time. One day the operator summoned up enough nerve to ask why. He said “I’m foreman of the local sawmill. Every day I blow the whistle at noon, so I call you to get the exact time.” The operator said “That’s odd. All this time, we’ve been setting our clock by your whistle!”
