Pastor’s Corner

Here we are in March and Spring is just around the corner-yeah! This year, Palm Sunday is on the last Sunday in March, and Easter (Resurrection Sunday) is on the 1st Sunday of April. So I want us to take a look at that Holy Week-that Passion week so long ago.

Daniel 9 contains the 70 week prophecy. It has been determined that the time the decree went out from Artexerxes for Nehemiah to rebuild the walls at Jerusalem to the exact day Jesus rode in on Palm Sunday was 173, 880 days. So prophecy predicted to the day Jesus would ride in.

As Jesus rode in on the donkey foal that had never been ridden, He saw into the future what would happen to Jesus-and for only the second time we know of, Jesus wept. He knew because they had rejected Him that Rome would siege the city of Jerusalem, including not leaving one stone in place of the holy temple.

During that week, we would see the people-who expected their Messiah would free them from Roman tyranny-turn from Hosanna to Crucify Him! The Pharisees and the rest of the Sanhedrin would get their way. They couldn’t see the truth of who Jesus was-thus all they heard was to them, words of blasphemy. We know Jesus only spoke the truth.

The perfect Lamb of God. on the week of Passover when unblemished, perfect lambs were slain to atone for the sins of the people-Jesus gave up His life willingly to become the bridge between sinful man and holy God.

Jesus died because He loves the world so much, as does His Father in Heaven. And it is only through His precious blood that washes us whiter than snow can we find forgiveness of sins as Jesus paid the price-He redeemed us-so that by believing in Him and giving our heart to Him-we too can find our way to Heaven and be with our Savior forever and ever.

I gave my life to the Lord one Easter morning many years ago. What better time to share the real story of Jesus’ death and resurrection to those who are not Christians. If Jesus died for us, can’t we do our part for Him?

Holy Week Activities
Sunday March 29 – Palm Sunday Service (11am)
Thursday April 2 – Maundy Thursday Service (5pm) (Communion and Foot washing-downstairs)
Friday April 3 – Good Friday Service (5pm)
Sunday April 5 – Easter Service (11am) (No Sunday School)

Our Lord does not care so much for the importance of our works as for the love with which they are done.

Palm Sunday
When people cut off branches and spread them in the way for Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem, what if the palm branches had objected? What if they protested being cut from the trees because they would rather be used for shade, or because they didn’t like being walked on?

What a ridiculous idea. It’s unthinkable that a tree or branch could have any control over what happens to it. Their owner can do as he pleases and he knows how to make the best use of them. AHA! See 1 Corinthians 6:19-20-you are not your own, for you have been bought at a price.
Who are we to refuse our Master, our owner? If He chooses to allow us to wave a banner of praise for Him, or to be a doormat, why do we think we have the right to object? We may not understand His purpose, but it is our privilege to be used for His honor and glory We need only remember He knows how to make the best use of our lives. Our part is to trust and to yield to His will.- Mildred Burger

This Do in Remembrance of Me
Come to this sacred table, not because you must, but because you may. Come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love our Lord Jesus Christ, and desire tom be His disciple. Come, not because you are strong, but because you are weak; not because you have any claim on heaven’s rewards, but because in your frailty and sin you stand in constant need of heaven’s mercy and help. Come, not to express an opinion, but to seek His presence and to pray for God’s direction in your life.

CHUCKLES
A married couple trying to live up to a snobbish lifestyle went to a party. The conversation turned to Mozart. “Absolutely brilliant! A genius!” The man, trying to fit is, said “Ah, Mozart! You’re so right. Love him! Only this morning I saw him getting on the No. 5 bus going to Coney Island! There was a sudden hush, and his wife looked mortified. “We’re leaving right now” she said, grabbing her coat. When they got home, the man knew his wife was angry about something. She said “You saw Mozart take the no. 5 bus to Coney Island?! Don’t you know the no. 5 bus doesn’t go to Coney Island?

A young schoolboy was having trouble pronouncing his “Rs”. The teacher gave him a sentence to practice. “Robert gave Richard a rap in the ribs for roasting the rabbit so rare.” The boy went home to practice, and in a few days the teacher asked him to say the sentence. He said “Bob gave Dick a poke in the side because the bunny wasn’t cooked enough.”

One day a man called the church office. He said “Can I speak to the head hog at the trough?” The secretary thought she had heard him correctly but said “I’m sorry….who?” The man repeated “The head hog at the trough.” Well, the secretary said “If you mean the pastor, you can refer to him as Pastor” or “Brother” but may certainly not refer to him as the head hog at the trough!” The man said “Well, I was planning to give the church $10,000 to the building fund….”. The secretary stopped him and said “hang on, the big fat pig just walked in.”
