I Believe in America
I believe in America. I believe it became great because of its faith in God; its hope for independence; and its love for freedom. I am grateful for America’s past; I am awed by its unbelievable present; I am confident of its limitless future. I am not ashamed to take my hat off and to stand at attention when Old Glory passed by. I do not apologize for the lump in my throat when I repeat the Pledge of Allegiance. I am not embarrassed by the tears in my eyes when I hear “The Star-Spangled Banner”. Like millions of Americans, I want a free choice, not a free handout. I prefer an opportunity to prove my abilities on the job rather than a license to demonstrate my frustration in the street. I am an old-fashioned American with a new-found determination to do my part to make Democracy work. -William Arthur Ward
A Prayer for the United States (as given by George Washington)
“Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou will keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that Thou wilt incine the hearts of its citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally, that thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, and humility, which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee. In Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
The Undelivered Speech
“We in this country, in this generation, are-by destiny rather than choice-the watchmen on the walls of world freedom. We ask, therefore, that we may be worthy of our power and responsibility, that we may exercise our strength with wisdom and restraint, and that we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of peace on earth, good will toward men. Independence Day
In the year of 1776 that paper was decreed;
they were tired of oppression and wanted to be freed
They wrote a Declaration so the whole world would see
This was the home of the brave and the land of the free.
They signed that piece of parchment the leaders of this land-
Knowing divided they would fall but together they could stand.
A new world lay before them, untamed from shore to shore
They swore they would protect it, even if it meant going to war.
Battles have been fought-and many lives have been lost
So sad something so basic has such a high, high cost.
More than two hundred years have passed by since that day
That each of us celebrate in our own different way.
We should be proud and thankful-pay our share of the cost
Not take freedom for granted, for it easily could be lost.
One Nation -Without God
America, the beautiful. Home of the brave and free, Is threatened by an evil that we don’t seem to see.
We are “One nation, under God.” Guided by His loving light, But we’ll be a nation “without God” if we don’t stand and fight.
We, the vast majority, must join hand in hand
Before the small minority takes God’s name from our land.
No matter our religion, we have a job to do;
We must band together to defeat the ungodly few.
God gave us freedom in this land to worship and to pray.
How can we just sit idly by watching it be taken away?
There is a God in Heaven-Let’s not let His light go dim.
How can He bless us from above if we won’t acknowledge Him?
A CHUCKLE
