Pastor’s Corner
A family picnic in the park. Mom makes the best chicken salad sandwiches with Potato Salad and a lucious chocolate cake. Dad makes sure to bring the “toys”-the frisbie; some baseball gloves and balls; and a football to toss around. Donny brings his toy cap gun and cowboy hat he bought at Tweetsie-and of course the family dog Fido. And Carol makes sure to bring her dolls with the assorted clothes and accessories that might need. They find the perfect big shade tree by the river, and a good time is had by all.
Another family is taking a visit to the near-by city of Mt Airy. They go during Mayberry days-people dressed up like characters from the Andy Griffith show. Seniors playing checkers in front of the Playhouse while drinking grape Nehi. People taking rides in the sherriff’s car from the show. Bands playing old time bluegrass music-a true slice of Americana.
These are the kinds of scenes Americans have fought for years and years-the American Way of Life-but its not free. Some in fact were willing to give their last measure of devotion so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today.
Regardless of what your opinions might be about the current war, may we all pray for peace that only God can grant. Sometimes others try to dominate and even conquer others, and must be faced. But they also have grandchildren. Maybe they need to remember them. May we pray for peace, but if fight we must, pray for all our brave men and women of the military-and thank them. And thank Jesus for His many promises.
