“In a Quiet Church”
I stepped inside the quiet church, and in a shadowed pew,
I opened up my heart to God, though He already knew
The burden that I carried and the trials I had to face.
But He was all that nattered, in this very holy place.
I know that walking in His steps is not an easy chore; to take whatever He may give, and never ask for more.
Deep rooted is the firm faith God always knows what’s best
I must forever cling to Him, forsaking all the rest.
Within this quiet church today I felt God close to me.
I didn’t have to touch Him, and I didn’t have to see
He’s saved me from myself too many times for me to doubt,
And He remains the only love I cannot do without. -Grace Easley

The Perfect Church
I think that I shall never see a Church that’s all it ought to be
A church where members never stray beyond the straight and narrow way
A church that has no empty pews, whose Pastor never has the blues
Where gossips never peddle lies. Or make complaints, or criticize.
Where all are always sweet and kind, and to others all faults are blind.
Such perfect Churches there might be, but none of the are known by me,
But still I’ll and pray and plan to make our own the best we can.

Trust and Believe
Whatever our problems, troubles, and sorrows, if we trust in the Lord, there’’ be brighter tomorrows.
For there’s nothing too much for the great God to do
And all that He asks or expects from you is faith that’s unshaken by tribulations and tears that keeps growing stronger along with the years.
Content in the knowledge that God knows best, and that trouble and sorrow is only a test,
For without God’s testing of our soul, it would never reach its ultimate goal.
Knowing that God will be with you to guide you;
And all He promised will be yours to receive
If you trust Him completely and always believe. -Helen Steiner Rice

A Nurse’s Reflection on Alzheimers
For those placed in my care each day I will be constant, I will stay
Even though bewildered, I try to impart all of the feelings that crowd my heart.
They once led strong and productive lives, these mothers and fathers, husbands and wives.
Before they wore the frightening masks, their lives were purposeful, filled with tasks.
The men will show a weathered hand, from reaping harvest of well-worked land.
The bloom of youth has vanished from faces of women whose children are in other places.
Their home now like a foreign land, and they are lost-they’ve lost life’s plan.
These frightened souls with questioning stares must understand that someone cares.
They are so grateful for everything; give a smile or a hug-they’re remembering
Maybe of a time in earlier years when they comforted someone and wiped away tears.
Perhaps they used a soothing voice not out of duty, but out of choice.
To help a lost one find their way, even if only for a minute each day.
It is so hard on the families, knowing the way they used to be
They ask, why does it have to be this way-that the loved ones they remember have been taken away?
They think they are left with an empty shell, of a former self they once knew so well.
But each of them has much to give, even though it’s a different life they live.
They still remember kindness and love, and most do not question our God above.
And if I question what God’s plan may be, the answer I think, is to humble me. -Cheryl King, RN

CHUCKLES
Howard came home from work one evening and there was his wife Miriam in the kitchen crying out loud. “What’s the matter, darling?” he asked. I just don’t know what to do”, she said. “Because we were eating in for a change, I cooked us a special dinner but the dog has just eaten it!” Howard, in all his husbandry wisdom, said “Don’t worry, honey. I’ll get us another dog.”

It was Palm Sunday but because of a sore throat 5 yr old Sammy stayed home with a babysitter. When the rest of the family came home, they were carrying in palm fronds. Sammy asked what they were for. The father said “they held them over their head as Jesus passed by.” Sammy said “the one Sunday I don’t go, and Jesus shows up!”

One day a secretary is leaving on her lunch break when she sees her boss standing in front of the shredder with a clueless look on his face. She asks if he needs help. “Yes”, he says. This is extremely important.” She turns the shredder on and inserts the paper. He says “I only need one copy.”
